Litter-picking on private land.

How to deal with your collections of litter from Private or Orphan Land.

The vast majority of our Volunteers clean their local street or park, and don't come across issues with private or orphan land, but it can be very difficult to identify different areas, and boundaries can be blurred. Whilst every litter clearance is welcomed, do please bear in mind we should only be asking Harrow Council to remove rubbish collected from public areas as there's a cost to public funds.

That's not to say we can't litter-pick on private land, with permission and on condition the collected rubbish is removed by the landowner, but this is likely to involve more careful planning and preparation. Without doing Land Registry checks or liaising with Harrow Council, it's often difficult to distinguish between land types.

If in doubt, please refrain from litter-picking and contact the admin team, and we'll support group members with this process.
